Gateway MTA (edge MTA)

A gateway or edge MTA sits at the boundary of a network and processes mail entering or leaving it, applying filtering, policy, or compliance rules before passing messages along. Security vendors' mail gateways and SMTP-edge frameworks like Haraka commonly fill this role.
